Currently Te Aro is one of the least ‘green’ suburbs in Wellington, but a group of landscape architecture students from Te Herenga Waka /Victoria University have been re-thinking the central city area, with ideas such as creating new laneways, ‘daylighting’ old streams, and creating new parks.
Earlier in the year they held an exhibition of the work, which was designed to encourage discussions about the future of Te Aro, and how it could be designed to enable more sustainable transport options combined with high-density housing that prioritises the environment and social cohesion.
At the next LIVE WELLington event, students will present and discuss the ideas.
