Daylight Robbery?

November 12, 2021

Submissions have closed on the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Bill as of midnight on Tuesday 16th. This blunt one-size-fits-all Bill allows three storey buildings on any residential site, without regard to the landscape or effects on sunlight or amenity. Everyone deserves a warm, dry, affordable home in a thriving community. This includes people in existing homes.

You can follow the progress of the Bill here, and read some thoughtful analysis here, here, here and here as well as reading about the reaction of Christchurch City Council .Live Wellington presented its submission on 22 November and you can read it here

We hope that, after the Select Committee hears real examples of the type of problems this could cause, and local stories are a key part of this, they will recommend changes to support liveability.

LIVE WELLington opposes this Bill but recognises that for political reasons it is likely to pass in some form.  Our submission proposes some alternative approaches to mitigate the problems it will create if passed in the form it was introduced.
